In the fashion world everything has already happened. The inaugural exhibition, “Fashion Repeats Itself. The revival styles in 19th-century ladies fashion,” opening March 29th at the new Museum of Historical Costume in Poznan, Poland explores just that theme.

The 19th century brought significant changes and innovations, not only in technology and the scientific world, but it also was a brilliant time of creation for fashion itself, in the meaning that we use it today. It is the moment when the first haute couture was born, from the concept of its creator, Charles Frederick Worth.

Visitors to the Museum of Historical Costumes will see extravagant dresses from the belle epoque to simpler, day dresses with clear inspiration from antiquity.

The Inaugural Exhibition at Polish Museum of Historical Costume explores how 19th-century fashion styles repeated themselves – the century started and ended with influences from classical dress styles.

The Museum of Historical Costume is based on the private collection of Anna Moryto, a Polish collector who has compiled ladies original dresses and accessories from the 19th century from auction houses from the US and London over the years.

Previously, XIXgallery was known for traveling exhibitions around Poland. Today, the gallery has transformed into a museum and the true educational mission has become the focus. The plans for the museum are to bring thematic exhibitions about the historical lifestyle, habits, and position of women in society. The mission of the museum is to educate visitors, including engaging children and young people, as well as everyone interested in this amazing field of human life and history.

In the fashion everything has already happened but never in the exact same way. You can admire the way fashion inspirations cycle and return and view unique and original dresses and ladies accessories from the 19th century in the Museum of Historical Costume in Poznan, Poland.
